Boys Premier: Finalists at Cincinnati Elite Spring Thaw tourney
In early spring, the U13 Lightning Premier team
went south to compete against 16 of the strongest teams in the midwest. Facing
teams including Westfield (ranked #16 in Indiana) and Javanon (ranked #1 in Kentucky),
the PSC team made it to the final where they played Libertyville (ranked #7 in
Illinois) to a 3-3 draw in regulation before falling in penalty kicks. Congratulations

Good News! PSC
Coach and former Coaching Director Blake Glass is now
convalescing at home
after suffering a heart attack while vising relatives
in Canada. You can follow
his recovery at the CaringBridge
blog.

senior Eric Alexander played four years with the Portage Soccer Club
and
was honored by the club with a plaque near the entrance to our soccer
complex.
PSC is very proud of the accomplishments of alumni on and off the
pitch. Here's
a quick update on Eric and other notably PSC soccer alumni

Alexander just finished an outstanding 4-year career at Indiana University,
and was last week drafted by FC Dallas of Major League Soccer. Four years ago
Alexander was selected Gatorade National High School Player of the Year. Read
about one of his games with FC Dallas as they faced Houston Dynamo in the Lone
Star rivalry here. |
| Jacob
Peterson had his 4th MLS season with the Colorado Rapids cut short by an unfortunate
ACL injury after a standout career at Indiana University where he scored goals
in national championship victories two years in a row. We're already looking forward
to his 5th season where he'll be closer to home with Toronto
FC and coach Preki. |
| Lindsay
Tarpley was recently named ESPN National High School Player of the Decade
in girls soccer after a standout college career at UNC and two Olympic gold medals
with the US Women's National Team. She also played with the Chicago Red Stars
in the WPS inaugural season, and last month she was traded to St. Louis Athletica
(read
more!). |

Snow, who also had a standout college career at Indiana University that involved
national championships, completed his 4th season on the coaching staff of perennial
powerhouse UCLA, most recently as Assistant Head Coach. |

Girls: Champs at SoccerZone Fall Classic Tournament
Over Labor Day Weekend the Portage Lightning U13 Girls team
won
the
SoccerZone Fall Classic
by
only conceeding a single goal
during preliminary play on their way to the tournament final where they defeated

Girls Elite: Champions at SZ Fall Classic in Kalamazoo
The Portage Lightning U14 Elite team won
the SoccerZone Fall Classic over Labor

Girls Elite Win Capital Area Classic in East Lansing
The third girls team to bring home hardware in September was the Portage
Lightning U16 Elite team.The girls went 4-0 in the U-16 Gold bracket of the tournament
and won their games by scores of 3-0, 5-0, 1-0 and 2-0. They defeated the
Ann Arbor based AAU Premier team in the finals.

Boys Elite: Champs at Junior Irish Tournament
Over Memorial Weekend the Portage Lightning U12 Elite team
won
the
Junior Irish tournament in South Bend
by
outscoring
opponents 26-1
and winning all six games. In
preliminary
play
they defeated
Jr. Irish Premier, Vardar West,
Michiana
Echo,
and
Jaier. After defeating Georgetown in the
semifinals,
they
faced
the host Jr. Irish Premier team
again in the
finals,
and then brought
home some
nice hardware. Congratulations
guys! |

Girls Win Junior Irish Tourney in South Bend
On Memorial Weekend the Portage Lightning U13 Elite team outscored
opponents 18-4 in five games on their way to
the Junior Irish title.
Preliminary
games against Livonia-Red, Kingdom Reserves,
Elkhart,
and Michiana
prepared them to face Livonia again in the
championship,
where they
won an exciting 1-0 match. Congratulations

Men win Lakeshore Tournament during a busy spring where they also went undefeated
in 8 games in the U-19 Elite League. Well done!! |

Boys Win Crusader Cup, hosted by Kingdom Premier
The Portage Lightning defeated AFC Jaier, Midland 91 boys and tied Capital
Area SC to advance to the final, where they stormed through Capital Area SC 4-0
to win the championship. Congratulations guys! |

Boys Gold team Finalists in Novi
in the U12 Boys Gold Division! The Portage Lightning defeated Rochester Lightning,
Canton Celtic, and Novi Jaquars in preliminary games. In the semifinals they defeated
South Lyon before losing a tough one to Ann Arbor United in the final. Congratulations
guys! |
