(Revised 25-Aug-2009)
Portage Soccer Club and Kalamazoo Soccer Club teams will kick off the new season with a series of scrimmages on Sunday Aug 30th with many River Oaks Soccer Club teams and other guests participating too. The friendlies will be held at the Portage Soccer Complex. After the scrimmage, free food will be provided for players and coaches with a ticket, while parents and others will be able to purchase food for a nominal $5.00 fee. The meal consists of an entree (one hamburger or two hot dogs), a bag of chips, a piece of fruit (apple or banana) or a cookie, and a drink (pop or water). A la carte beverages will also be available for those who just want a beverage.
The final schedule is now available (see below or click here for print-able format). On Sunday, one representative from each team is asked to stop at the check-in table (to be located near the concession stand) BEFORE their game to pick up their free meal tickets. Please hold onto the tickets during the game and hand them out after the game to reduce the number of lost tickets. Players can claim their free meal at the concession stand windows. Please let parents and siblings know they can purchase the same meal for $5.00 at the concession stand as well.
Home teams wear light jerseys (usually yellow or white) while visitors wear dark (usually red or blue or green).
An added feature this year is an opportunity to recycle gently used soccer items by participating in the Passback Program. Bring to the Celery Cup last year's jersey, or shoes and shin guards that no longer fit. Bins near the concession stand will be present where you can donate your items. For more details, click here. The Passback Program, in partnership with Eurosport, and with the support of MLS and WPS players, is an initiative of the U.S. Soccer Foundation to help meet the soccer uniform and equipment needs of all communities, regardless of income, gender or location. Since its inception, the program has grown enormously and thousands of pieces of equipment have been collected and distributed to schools, clubs and youth organizations across the nation. From a small school in Zimbabwe to an after-school program in inner-city New York, Passback gear has found its way to all corners of the globe, but we know we can do more! Participate in Passback and help us reach our ultimate goal of collecting and distributing a million pieces of equipment! Thousands of lives will be changed because of your efforts.
